Illinois State Capitol, Room 212
EverGreene performed an historic finishes study in this most richly decorated room in the Capitol dating from 1874-76. The historic decorative scheme was reinstated with dozens of colors and finishes, including metallic paints and powders, stenciling, glazing, gilding, faux bois, and faux marbre. Unique carton-pierre ornament was conserved in the ceiling, and two scagliola columns and bases were restored. Two murals, Justice andEagle, were documented, stabilized, and conserved. Contracting directly with the Illinois State Office of the Architect of the Capitol, EverGreene has performed restoration work throughout the building over the course of several years and multiple phases.
