St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church

Corona, NY

Built in 1964, St. Paul’s Church wanted a space to express community within its multi-ethnic congregation. A new fan-shaped seating arrangement allows individuals to feel part of a greater whole, while directing their attention toward the altar platform. EverGreene collaborated with the architect to develop a custom-designed abstract wall mural to be the focal point behind the altar. The mural was executed using Venetian plaster in gradations of colors over a metallic gold background. Gold-stenciled inlays in a skewed grid represent the universe, linking the powder-blue sky of heaven above and the reddish-brown earth below, with the cross at the center.
