Stenciling is a traditional, decorative technique of applying a pattern, design, or text to a surface, using a stencil template. The template consists of a thin sheet of cardboard, metal, or other material from which shapes or letters have been cut out. A coloring substance, such as paint, ink, or pigment is then applied over the sheet onto the surface.
