1920's Lobby

Washington, DC

We developed and implemented treatments for the cleaning and restoration of marble steps, mosaic tile floors, scagliolo plaster columns and wainscot and terra cotta units in the lobby and entrance façade of this early 20th-century apartment building in the Kalorama section of North West Washington DC. Working with the co-op board and Architect, specific treatments for each of the high style surfaces were studied, tested, mocked up for approval and implemented. Treatments included gentle and comprehensive cleaning ranging from detergent washing to fine diamond honing, replacement of lost tesserae in the mosaic floors with matching tiles, faux finishing to in-paint losses in the scagliolo and terra cotta and general conservation consultation.
