St. Mary's Catholic Student Center

College Station, TX

St. Mary’s Catholic Center  is located in the heart of College Station, Texas. St. Mary’s serves the students of Texas A & M University and is the largest Catholic student center in the country. Our Design Team was called to this project in the early phases in order to develop a liturgical artistry program in tandem with the new architectural design. Knowing how integral this space is for the community, the project was a collaboration with Studio IO, the Brown Reynolds and Watford Architectural firm, the Diocese of Austin, and a select group of church parishioners. The stained glass addition was a contribution from parishioner Quint Foster of Foster’s Stained Glass.

Our artists introduced color and spiritual elements to all corners of the church. The triumphal arch mural features an image of Christ in Majesty surrounded by a cloud of witnesses in New Jerusalem. The sanctuary dome ceiling has a mural evoking the gifts of the holy spirit at Pentecost, while the Coppola bears a depiction of the four evangelists and other decorative features. As this church is a dedication to St. Mary, we are developing murals depicting the mysteries of the rosary in typical Marian devotion. The space showcases a rich and carefully considered liturgical artistry program meant to draw the students into a deeper understanding of the faith as well as to cultivate devotion to our lady through this exalted imagery.
