Newman Center St. Thomas Aquinas
Newman Center St. Thomas Aquinas Church is the crown of an impressive multi-use complex at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. EverGreene was invited to develop and implement a new liturgical artistry program in the collegiate Gothic style. Working collaboratively with the local painting team, EverGreene artists created a celestial ceiling in the crossing, implemented patterning throughout, and painted four original pendentive murals of Saints Longinus, Veronica, Helen, and Andrew, which were inspired by their presence at St. Peter’s Basilica.
EverGreene’s craftsmen restored severely damaged stations of the cross, which were rescued from a decommissioned church. A decorative program for the Lady chapel was designed with the intention of phased implementation. Additionally, faux-bois wood graining was implemented on the ceiling beams and fine art giclée was used for repeating decorative elements throughout the nave. As part of the planned phased implementation, our team returned for further work, including the sacred heart crests pictured below.
