940 Madison Avenue
Originally designed as the US Mortgage & Trust Company Building by Henry Otis Chapman in 1922, this 11,000 square-foot building now is home to an Apple Store on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.
Working with Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, our team restored historic finishes along with reconstructing historic elements that were either missing or could not be salvaged. This process consisted of designing, sculpting, casting and installing ornamental plaster to repair and alter the existing coffers and missing pieces on the entry level floor. Existing photographs and drawings guided the team to determine their general shape and configuration.
We installed acoustic plaster solutions on the entry level floor coffers along with fabrication and installation a new ceiling reminiscent of the historic ceiling’s style, on the lower level. Traditional 3-coat plaster repairs were applied to the walls on both floors.
