Michigan State Capitol

The Michigan State Capitol is a National Historic Landmark that currently houses the chambers and offices of the Michigan Legislature as well as the ceremonial offices of the Governor of Michigan and Lieutenant Governor. The capitol building, preceded by a temporary wood-frame structure, was dedicated in January 1879 and is designed in a Neoclassical style. The capitol was rededicated in 1992 after a three-year restoration project.

During the multi-phased project, EverGreene completed the conservation and restoration of the murals, decorative finishes, stencil designs, and matched the historic graining in the Michigan State Capitol Rotunda, Court Room, and Senate Appropriations Room. The scope included mural conservation, stencil recreation and installation, gilding, and both decorative and faux finishes restoration.

Our craftspeople returned in 2018 to complete touch-ups of the decorative bands, replication/touch-ups of the Art Deco ceilings, and wood-graining for the Senate Chambers doorway.
