Martin Puryear's Big Bling
At 40’-tall, Big Bling, is artist Matin Puryear’s largest sculpture. The installation – a multi-tier wood structure wrapped in fine chain-link fence with a gold shackle anchored near the top – could be seen in New York’s Madison Square Park before moving onto Philadelphia in summer 2017. Big Bling marks Madison Square Park’s art thirty-third public art exhibition. Fabricated in collaboration with Digital Atelier, the sculpture is comprised of wood wrapped in fine chain-link fence.
EverGreene consulted with Mr. Puryear on the exterior gold leaf application for the gilded shackle. After testing multiple finishes and sealants, it was determined that genuine 23. 75k gold leaf would provide the proper exterior durability and the right “brilliance. ” EverGreene artisans gilded the 300 square foot surface off-site, consulted on the appropriate methods for transport from New Jersey to New York City, and were on-hand to provide touch-ups when the sculpture was erected.
