Illinois State Capitol West Wing

Designed by Alfred Piquenard between 1868 and 1888, the Capitol represents the zenith of Second Empire design in the state. EverGreene studied the original designs and conducted finishes investigations throughout the Capitol. Our craftsmen and conservators restored the historic decorative scheme in Room 309, the grand stair and public corridors.
Our work included reinstating hand-painted decoration, faux marbling, stenciling, gilding, and glazing. Conservators also restored the historic Fuchs mural in the grand staircase and scagliola in the first-floor lobby. The restoration, completed in 2013, marks the end of the second phase of a comprehensive renovation program.
