Georgia State Capitol
During the revival of Georgia’s State Capitol in 2000, a decorative finish analysis was conducted to restore the paint to its original 1889 colors. EverGreene replicated historic stenciling, polychromy, and gilding using 48 colors in 19 patterns in the House Chamber and 25 colors in 20 patterns in the Senate Chamber.
Artisans restored the historic decorative paint scheme on perforated metal in the coved ceilings in both chambers. In addition to decorative painting and stenciling, craftsmen restored ornamental plaster throughout the capitol. Historic plaster was consolidated and damaged cornice elements and column moldings were molded, recast and reinstalled. The details of the subtle late-Victorian era paint look beautiful in the natural light of the atrium.
