Steinway Building
Designed in 1925 by the renowned architectural firm Warren & Wetmore, 111 West 57th Street was originally constructed as the headquarters and showroom for the iconic Steinway Piano Company. As part of the building’s transformation into one of New York City’s most prestigious residential addresses, EverGreene collaborated with JDS Development, SHoP Architects, and acclaimed interior design firm Studio Sofield in 2019 to create a custom oval lattice dome for the South Lobby.
The intricately crafted dome serves as a dramatic focal point within Studio Sofield’s bespoke lobby design, seamlessly connecting the historic Steinway Building entrance to the elevator lobby of the newly constructed 91-story luxury residential tower. EverGreene’s team developed detailed shop drawings and expertly fabricated and installed the dome, overcoming exceptionally complex geometric challenges that made the project a remarkable technical achievement.
To complete the space, EverGreene meticulously upholstered the dome, surrounding walls, and door frames in a rich velveteen fabric, adding warmth, texture, and sophistication to the lobby environment. The result is an elegant transitional space that honors the building’s historic legacy while complementing the contemporary luxury of one of Manhattan’s most celebrated residential towers.
