USNA Gate II

Annapolis, MD

Gate II is one of the original wrought iron gates that access the grounds of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis MD. They consist of a central vehicular pair of leaves flanked by pedestrian walks. The ironwork had deteriorated over a century of use and modifications. EverGreene conservators joined with Citadel DCA to assess the condition of the ironwork and provide recommendations for restoration. The gates were documented, conditions studied, and a treatment plan developed that included directions for disassembly, recreation of missing elements, repair to remaining historic parts, re-coating and re-installation.
