Cardozo High School
Washington, DC
We were commissioned to restore the carved stone mantle original to the school and located in the second floor library. The mantle and fireplace are constructed from Indiana Limestone and was considerably soiled. Our conservators cleaned the stone through a multi-step process beginning with a dry cleaning followed by a detergent cleaning, an application of a gel-cleaner, and ending with an application of a latex cleaner. The process was gentle, yet extremely effective.
This Project was recognized with the 2014 District of Columbia Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation.
