Arlington Cemetery Flagpoles

Washington, DC

EverGreene conservators developed appropriate surface preparation methods and provide quality control and gilding services for the restoration of three historic flagpoles at two prominent national cemeteries in Washington, D.C. Two of the flagpoles in the project scope are at Arlington National Cemetery: one is located adjacent to the Arlington House/Lee Mansion; the Woodhull Memorial Flagstaff is placed at the south lawn of the Memorial Amphitheater.  The third flagpole is located at the United States Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery. EverGreene oversaw paint removal and re-painting of cast iron, steel, and copper alloy surfaces, and applied gold leaf to the finials of the Arlington House and the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home flagpoles.
