Cathedral Basilica of the Assumption
With Gargoyles on the exterior and fine tracery that recalls lace on the interior, Covington Kentucky’s Cathedral Basilica Assumption extraordinary! For the past several decades however the Blessed Sacrament, previously considered “the beating heart of the cathedral” didn’t quite measure up to the rest of the building. A post-historic renovation concealed wall patterning, created by artist Frank Duveneck. EverGreene conservators were able to retrieve the historic patterning and EverGreene artists were able to replicate the lost artwork using a combination of traditional techniques and cutting edge technology.
The result of the restoration is a faithful return to the way the chapel was designed: with walls fully alive with figurative murals, stained glass, and patterning that looks like it has always been there.
