EverGreene was contracted by Mark Kutney, Architectural Conservator of the University of Virginia, to treat the sculpture of Homer by Moses Jacob Ezekial (1907) situated in front of Cabell Hall. The monument was treated on-site at UVA from September 23, 2019, to October 1, 2019.
The bronze seated figure of Homer and his student are mounted atop a gray marble base situated outside Cabell Hall at the University of Virginia. The bronze sculpture depicts the blind poet credited with writing The Iliad and The Odyssey, along with his young student, holding a lyre. The purpose of the sculpture treatment was to perform an overall cleaning of the bronze and base; perform touch-up patination and wax to the bronze figures; and complete repairs to the broken lyre. The overall treatment plan was tailored to each portion (bronze/base/ yre), depending on the individual needs and conditions present.
