The Old Post Office Pavillion

Washington, DC

Finished in 1899 as headquarters for the U.S. Post Office Department and Washington D.C.’s main postal facility, the Old Post Office Building stands as the capital’s second-highest structure, surpassed only by the Washington Monument. Throughout much of the 1900s, the building faced potential demolition until preservation advocates successfully fought to protect it. It was restore in the 1980 to house various Federal Government offices. Today, it holds a place on the National Register of Historic Places and ranks among Washington’s most beloved architectural treasures.

In 2012, the U.S. General Services Administration awarded The Trump Organization the redevelopment contract and long-term lease to convert the building into a luxury hotel. The project was designed by Beyer Blinder Belle Architects and was tightly controlled by the GSA Historic Preservation Office, the DC Commission of Fine Arts, and the National Park Service.

EverGreene was engaged to ensure that the consecutive work was in compliance with the requirements of all stakeholders, including the oversight agencies, providing guidance on condition assessments and treatments to achieve the desired level of high-end finishes. Regular presentations and mockup reviews facilitated the successful completion of the work to everybody’s satisfaction. The property currently operates under the Waldorf Astoria brand.
