Applied Physics Missiles

Johns Hopkins University, Laurel, MD

Our conservators were contracted to perform a condition assessment on five missiles housed in the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL.) In preparation for an upcoming anniversary, JHUAPL sought guidance in developing a plan to display and preserve these five objects. The missiles had been collected from various storage and temporary sites within the JHUAPL campus and represent some of the lab’s history of development of these weapons.

Three originals and two dummy missiles were assessed. We inspected each missile, documented the conditions, developed recommendations for treatment, and provided recommendations for display. The results of the assessment, recommendations, cost estimates for treatment for each missile were submitted to the client in a report.
