Conference posters present latest developments, initiatives, as well as topics of particular relevance. We are proud to share the monumental restoration of Exodus and Dance, an 80-foot concrete bas-relief frieze by artist Richmond Barthé which was installed in the Kingsborough Houses in Brooklyn, NY in 1941. The poster discusses conservation challenges of the first major restoration of the sculpture in over 80 years, including the safe removal, stabilization, and integration of a new support system.

This guided walking tour of the Basilica of St. Mary offers a comprehensive overview of the architectural history and behind the scenes look at ongoing preservation initiatives. We will be sharing insights from the assessment, material testing, preservation of interior masonry and painted finishes, as well as essential exterior upgrades. The experience will provide a unique glimpse into the technical applications and artistry involved in preserving this historic treasure.

This panel discussion reviews the history and efficacy of plaster treatments over the past 40 years. Panel members will be discussing materials and visual qualities of 18th century boiserie, i.e white and gold rooms, and how Allard & Fils incorporated those methods at the Astor Cream Salon at the Ringling. In addition, the panel will provide an overview of more recent gilding techniques and materials that were used on the gilded ornamentation of the salvaged boiserie of the room.

This practice panel will dive into the topic of laser cleaning on masonry to look at the development and efficacy of past and current treatments. Panelists will introduce the mechanics of laser ablation before moving into a Q&A session to spark conversation on the successes and limitations of this approach for cleaning masonry materials. The session aims to be a collaborative event, gathering colleagues and their valuable insights from all specialty groups.
