This 2-day workshop provides an overview of the plaster conservation process, from condition assessment through materials analysis and repair. Topics include: types of plaster, processes of making plaster, typical deterioration patterns, methodologies for documenting condition assessments, diagnostic procedures, nondestructive evaluations, material properties and characterization, laboratory analysis, stabilization, and repair techniques. The workshop features:
- Plaster issues at macro and micro scales—facilitated by WJE & JBC
- Site visits at Newport Mansions—hosted by the Preservation Society of Newport
- Hands-on demonstrations—facilitated by EverGreene’s Nick Hopkins & Jeff Greene
