State capitols are among the nation’s most significant civic landmarks, reflecting more than two centuries of architectural innovation, artistic craftsmanship, and democratic history. From Greek Revival and Beaux-Arts masterpieces to Renaissance Revival and Art Deco icons, these buildings continue to serve as active centers of government while preserving the stories and artistry that define each state. Today, 44 state capitols are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including 19 designated National Historic Landmarks.
Since beginning work at the New Jersey State House in 1988, EverGreene has completed projects at 41 of the nation’s 51 capitols, establishing one of the most extensive portfolios of capitol restoration in the United States. Our work has continued uninterrupted for more than four decades, with restoration projects completed at state capitols nearly every year.
Capitol restoration demands a multidisciplinary approach that balances historic preservation standards with the operational needs of active government buildings. EverGreene combines investigative research, conservation science, traditional craftsmanship, and modern technologies to develop restoration solutions that are both historically accurate and built to endure.
In recognition of this expertise, EverGreene was featured in the National Conference of State Legislatures’ 50th anniversary publication, Capitol Views: A Journey Through America’s Legislatures, highlighting our longstanding role in preserving the architectural and cultural legacy of America’s state capitols.
