Pérez Art Museum

Miami, FL

Following Hurricane Irma in 2017, EverGreene was engaged by Pérez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) to assess its outdoor sculpture collection and recommend immediate and long-term conservation strategies. The collection includes major works by artists such as Mark di Suvero, Anthony Caro, and Jedd Novatt. Recommendations addressed both storm-related damage and ongoing material degradation from the sub-tropical marine environment, outlining near-term stabilization measures and long-term maintenance strategies, including selective removal for treatment.

Following the assessment, EverGreene implemented conservation treatments on select works within the Mary M. and Sash A. Spencer Sculpture Garden. Treatments included cleaning, corrosion removal, in-painting, and the application of protective coatings, all completed on an accelerated schedule to meet the museum’s needs. EverGreene also developed a long-term maintenance plan and continues to support the ongoing care of the collection.

Maintenance treatments primarily involved aqueous cleaning, corrosion removal, and the application of protective wax and paint systems, and were carried out on five sculptures:

  • Chaos SAS by Jedd Novatt (2012, stainless steel)
  • La Plume de Pierrot by Mark di Suvero (1974, painted steel)
  • Land of Milk and Honey by Anthony Caro (2006, bronze)
  • Chaos Bizkaia by Jedd Novatt (2012, bronze)
  • Endless Evolution by Pablo Atchugarry (2015, stainless steel)
