Open House New York Weekend

Every October, Open House New York Weekend unlocks the doors of New York’s most important buildings, offering an extraordinary opportunity to experience the city and meet the people who design, build, and preserve New York.

From historical to contemporary, residential to industrial, hundreds of sites across the five boroughs are open to visit, with tours, talks, performances, and other special events taking place over the course of OHNY Weekend. With this unparalleled access, OHNY Weekend deepens our understanding of the importance of architecture and urban design in fostering a more vibrant civic life, and helps catalyze a citywide conversation about how to build a better New York.

Celebrating 10th Anniversary in 2020

New York City’s Architecture and Design Month—now in its tenth year—presents a wide array of events that focus on the importance of architecture and design in everyday life. Organized by the Center for Architecture, in collaboration with partnering organizations across the city, the festival raises awareness of the important role of design in our city, and the richness of New York’s built environment across the five boroughs.

Organized by the Center for Architecture, in collaboration with 70 partners and sponsors, the 2020 installment of the festival gathers events, exhibitions, resources, and activities that highlight the importance of architecture and design, even during the most challenging of times.

Cooper Hewitt National Design Month

Design can change the world. Meet the people making it happen.

In 2020, National Design Week expands to a month-long virtual celebration, gathering leading designers and communities from around the country to celebrate the power of design in our everyday world. Held in conjunction with the National Design Awards, National Design Month will highlight the work of Award winners through a series of free virtual education programs throughout October. This will include talks, tours, workshops, professional development training, a college fair, and a career fair. Check back throughout October for new activities to be released on the Smithsonian Learning Lab and more!
