Mosaics

Mosaic is the technique of creating designs, patterns, or images, using small pieces of hard materials such as stone, glass, or ceramic pieces, known as tesserae. Tesserae are typically flat and multicolored, and can be used to create mosaics on almost any architectural surface or as part of sculptural work.

Mosaic preservation requires both technical expertise and artistic sensitivity, preserving the integrity of the artistic design and the intricate construction of the mosaic. Our team of conservators repair aged and damaged elements alongside cleaning treatments and periodic maintenance for historic and modern mosaics on both the interior and exterior of buildings.

New mosaic designs start with the creation of maquettes to facilitate design visioning and decision making. Our artists and craftspeople execute new work in our studio and onsite in colored glass, stone, ceramic, or other media.
