Over the last four decades, EverGreene has collaborated with the Architect of the Capitol (AoC) on the ongoing preservation and maintenance of the U.S. Capitol, one of our country’s most iconic and historically significant buildings.

Its age and constant heavy use have forced internal systems to grow accretively without comprehensive recordation. Aside from its obvious iconic significance and history, the building houses artwork, artifacts, and decorative interior finishes that are all considered sacrosanct. The building itself is an artifact—meeting symbolic, aesthetic, as well as practical demands. Centrally located in downtown Washington, D.C., it stands as a beacon and symbol of the endurance and adaptability of democracy.

Our team has been involved in ongoing preservation efforts of the U.S. Capitol since the 1980s to present day. From the metal architectural elements lining the campus grounds to the stone and marble exteriors of the House and Senate Wings, to the murals inside the building’s halls, and all the way up to the plasterwork on the ceiling of the rotunda—it’s easy to spot EverGreene’s restoration and conservation efforts.

• The Capitol’s design was selected by President George Washington in 1793 and construction began shortly after.
• The Building is over 1.5 million square feet and has over 600 rooms and miles of corridors.
• U.S. Capitol grounds area covers 175,170 square feet or about four acres.
• The most recent addition is the Capitol Visitors Center (2008) with a connection to the Library of Congress across the street.
