Headed to the Annual  Conference for Catholic Facility Management (CCFM) in Baltimore this April/May? Be sure to plan ahead for Emily Sottile, Director of the Sacred Space Studio, discussion on Mosaic Preservation & Care (Track BAL2309A) which will occur on Tuesday, May 2 from 3:45pm – 4:45pm and repeated from 5:00pm-6:00pm ET.

Course Description: 
Stewardship of the patrimony of the church is a tall order! Knowing how to safely care for mosaics and other works of art depends on a variety of factors. This session will discuss types of mosaics, identifying problems, knowing when to call in an expert, and how to safely clean materials for in-house maintenance.

4 AIA Learning Objectives:

  • Identify different types of mosaics and composition material
  • Learn about various building construction factors and how they impact conditions
  • Learn about typical sealants/coatings historically used to protect/treat mosaics (silicone, polyurethane, and wax are common sealants)
  • Learn about basic maintenance procedures

Anticipated AIA / Continuing Education System (“CES”) Credits: 1.0 Learning Units (“LU”).
