Course Description:
Stewardship of the patrimony of the church is a tall order! Knowing how to safely care for mosaics and other works of art depends on a variety of factors. This session will discuss types of mosaics, identifying problems, knowing when to call in an expert, and how to safely clean materials for in-house maintenance.
4 AIA Learning Objectives:
- Identify different types of mosaics and composition material
- Learn about various building construction factors and how they impact conditions
- Learn about typical sealants/coatings historically used to protect/treat mosaics (silicone, polyurethane, and wax are common sealants)
- Learn about basic maintenance procedures
Anticipated AIA / Continuing Education System (“CES”) Credits: 1.0 Learning Units (“LU”).
