Metropolitan Apartment Lobby—Private
We were selected to perform a condition assessment and develop a plan of operations for the restoration of the historic lobby of the 1920s Metropolitan Apartment Building located at 200 Rhode Island Ave, NE in Washington, DC.
We performed a thorough, hands-on assessment of the many sophisticated decorative finishes within the lobby that included impressive decorative plasterwork, polychrome painting scagliola, mosaic, terrazzo and more. These finishes suffered from deterioration by neglect over the years, coupled with some construction-related damage as the building underwent a major renovation.
Our observations on the condition, their likely cause and recommended methods and materials for their redress were included in the report; the report was thoroughly documented and a visual “glossary” of conditions and materials was also generated for the client. We’s report was used to help contribute towards an historic preservation tax credit application for the work.
